Abu el Lissal

On July 6th 1917, Auda abu Tayi learned that the Turks took back the blockhouse at Abu el Lissal. This battalion-sized force was to meet the wrath of Auda as he led his men into battle. In a wild cavalry charge the forces under Auda, and Lawrence took over 150 prisoners.

Luckily for the British, Lawrence escaped death after he shot his own camel in the head during the charge.

The defeat of the Turks at Abu el Lissal led to the rallying of the local tribes to the cause and 2,000 irregular cavalry went on to take Aqaba.
