I was thinking of all of the interesting figures that are available today for World War 1 miniature gamers. While there is a wide assortment from 6mm up to 54mm figures, I will content myself with my chosen scale of 15mm.
While looking over the list of countries involved in this conflict, and it is a long list, it is interesting that most can be fielded a respectable force of miniatures. Considering my interest in Poirot of Agatha Christie fame, I can even do a force of Belgies.
Figures for the main protagonists are made by Irregular, QRF, Blue Moon, Miniature Figurines and Peter Pig. With of the Balkan countries covered by Irregular and Eureka. Blue Moon figures are a little larger than the rest but look fine on the table. My only word of warning is to not mix the manufacture of the vehicles. Blue Moon does have nice castings, but they are noticeably larger than other vehicles of the same class.
For doing the Middle East, Irregular and Miniature Figurines make the best ranges to cover most of figures needed. I do need to add a plug though for Peter Pig’s Indians. They are good figures with four poses. What is missing are more Arab troops/Hashemite Regulars and British in sun helmets. It would also be nice for some of the British to be in shorts and helmets.
All figures shown are from Peter Pig‘s website.
I hope to go into more detail in the weeks ahead. I also look forward to working on my Arabs under Auda Abu Tayi. The Howeitat are fierce warriors.
